CYLINDER HEADS

Ever since HAMOFA engine revisions was established, our company has been renowned for revising and repairing cylinder heads. Every single day we help dozens of clients by revising or exchanging their cylinder heads.

CLEANING:

Before starting the various processes, the cylinder heads are cleaned using a special washing machine. This washing machine thoroughly cleans the cylinder head using warm water and a special cleaning soap. This enables our mechanics to perform their job in the best set of circumstances.

CRACK TESTER:

Once the cylinder head has been thoroughly cleaned, it is sent to the “CRACK TESTER”.
This machine ensures that the internal channels in the cylinder head are subjected to pressure, while the cylinder head is submerged in water with a constant temperature of 60°C. If the cylinder head is cracked, or if leaks are present at undesired places, we clearly see air escaping from the water.

If the cylinder head has a leak, then we will examine whether it can be repaired. If there are no leaks in the cylinder head, we can proceed with the remaining processes.

CHECKS and REVISION:

The cylinder head is closely examined for wear and damage. All separate parts are disassembled and thoroughly inspected by our specialists. Depending on the wear or damage, we will service and revise cylinder heads with the following processes.

  • Renew valves
  • Grind valves
  • Renew value guides
  • Renew valve seats
  • Trim valve seats
  • Renew valve caps
  • Check valves for leakage
  • Level cylinder heads

REPAIRING CRACKED CYLINDER HEADS:

When aluminium cylinder heads were launched on to the market, HAMOFA started to invest in the repair and revision of cracked cylinder heads. In various cylinder heads there is a likelihood of tears or cracks appearing water channels, air channels etc. If your cylinder head is torn, there is an alternative to simply replacing it!
HAMOFA may be able to offer you the chance to repair your cylinder head!

This repair takes place using the following processes.
  1. Milling out the tear or crack in the cylinder head (IMG_4086). This is done using our CNC-operated milling machines, which ensure that the tear is completely worked away. When no further tears are present in the cylinder head, we are able to continue the process.

  1. Pre-heating the cylinder up to processing temperature. The cylinder head is heated in our special oven, thus avoiding warping.
  1. The milled gaps in the cylinder head are now re-welded using state-of-the-art welding equipment. This procedure is very complicated and is only performed by our specialists!
  1. The cylinder head is then re-milled to the original structure; with no sign of the crack that was once present!

However, each cylinder head is re-tested under pressure in order to account for possible human error.
